My 2003 Ford Explorer, 4 door, automatic, 4X4, has started not shifting properly and the "OD off" warning light keeps flashing. After scanning to find out what the problem might be; one code came up which was "P0775". I then took it to a local shop. The mechanic seemed to be very familiar with this type of problem. He said he would check the wiring in the steering column, and also leading into the transmission. Later that day he called and said because he had not found anything wrong with the wiring he would have to remove the pan to check and see if metal shavings present, and what the condition of the fluid was. The next day he called to break the bad news that I needed a new transmission and quoted me a price of $3500.00. My question is; if the code "P0775" indicating a problem with the "Pressure Control Solenoid B Circuit Malfunction" came up, wouldn't he address this issue first? I have very little faith in some auto mechanics. How can I be sure he is not trying to take me for a ride?

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the transmission section. How many miles does it have? These transmissions have known issues with the solenoid block acting up around 60K miles. You could purchase a solenoid block from WWW.800700Tran.Com. Check the internal wiring harness, and the bulkhead connector. The harness could have a bad connection. The servo bores have been known to cause issues as well. WWW.ServoBore.Com sells a repair kit for them, but you would have to remove the transmission in order to fix the bores.

My Explorer has 95K miles on it. Could it be possible for the two issues you mentioned to cause the metal shavings, or could the metal shavings be a whole other issue in it's own? Are both issues linked to each other, and are they causing the "P0775" code? What I'm trying to get at is that the presence of metal shavings is a real good reason to suggest replacing a transmission, and easy enough said; but are all these issues conducive to each other? BTW thanks for moving my thread into the right section, and thanks for your help.
