It happens in cold weather, and only upon acceleration. It sounds kind of like a bad belt noise....a chirping. It gets louder the harder you compress the petal. I am thinking this might me the fuel injectors??? Do you all agree? Is this something that Lucas or Seafoam could put a bandaid on? What if I leave it alone?

Belt tensioner maybe? That solved my issues.

I got two explorers that do a similar thing. I honestly think its the water pump. Both trucks do it when its cold out. One does it until the engine warms up and the other does it at highway speeds in cold weather. I have replaced idlers and alternators on both, alternators went bad at same time, I have not messed with it since and just let them sing for now.

Good luck

Thanks! So nothing to be too concerned about?

I haven't had any trouble yet, its been about a year. But its hard to say if its exactly the same noise. I'm sure it will manifest eventually though.

Does the noise eventually quit? If it is persistant the whole time you drive the truck I would think about doing something. It would get annoying if anything.

You may want to try changing the coolant, if it has not been done recently. The anti-freeze acts as a lubricant for the water pump. If money is not a concern, change the water pump and see if it goes away. I just haven't done this to mine yet, so i'm not sure if it will fix it or not. I recommend motorcraft parts if you do decide to do something with it.

I've had similar "chirping noises" that increase in frequency with the RPMs. It turned out to be the Camshaft Postion Sensor. The sensor has a snychronizer on it that has a bearing that is problematic with chirping. You might want to check that before you change out your water pump.

Is that a 94 only thing? I dont think my 93 has one and im pretty sure that my 92 does not have it. I will have to look into that.

Thanks
