Recently, the Explorer quit on my wife at a red light and would not restart. She finally turned the ignition off and then it restarted. It threw a message on the dash, but it went away before she could read it and the check engine light came on. I used my code reader and looked the code up on the internet and it really offered no useful information. It sent a message to my FordPass: “the powetrain control module has detected the power relay de-energized earlier than expected.”

Took it to the dealer and they could not find the problem. After two days they discovered that the negative battery cable was loose.

Did they cover it under warranty?

I have a Ford extended warranty, but it it was not covered. dealer just charged me the diagnostic fee,

If it happens again, you may be due for a new battery if you are on the original.
