As the title says there is a weird smell coming from either my sub or the box itself, i just want to see if anyone can give me any advice or opinions. i have one audiobahn 12 in a ported q logic box, the sub can handle 1100 rms, and my jbl 1200.1 amp is powering that. I just got a replacement becuz the first sub i had blew after about 4 and a half months, now i notice the smell again and am wondering if it is maybe just the inside of the box, and whatever was used to make it, or is it the sub going out on me again? Any help would be of great use, thank you.

Pull the sub and look at the tinsel leads one may of came lose and blew your sub. Is the sub stiff?

leads are good, and the sub is pounding like it should.

spray some cherry scent into the box and than see if the smell reoccurs. If it doesnt come back than it had to be the box....

did this happen when the subs were new or have they been used for a while? most of the time (unless under full warantee.... haha...... kinda break the sub in, dont crank it till you have 15-20 minutes of medium bass) if you smell this again try to feel how hot the coil on the sub is, i think u said its a qlogic box, pull the tube out of the port and try to fit your hand back there, if you cant pull the sub and feel. also, what settings are you running on your amp? ie. subsonic filter, low pass crossover. hope this helped, any questions feel free to ask.... good luck, kre8ive_kustomz

when subs get hot they stink..trust me my kickers smelled when i had them inverted..its not a good thing for the subs to be smelling because they sholdnt be getting that hot

so when they smell TURN EM DOWN or u will fry the voice coils if u are driving for like 3-4hrs ..ur subs are not going to liek full volume for the whole time they will heat up..

ok will try to see if the coil is hot or not, it starts to smell after about 3 minutes of playing at high volume, and my old one did that even after it was broken in. I never drive more then half an hour at a time, to and from school is only like 15 minutes, so they arent being played at high volume for a very long time. thanks for all the quick replies, we'll c what develops, one more question does anyone else have any experience with audiobahn subs, and did they still sound good over time?

well it can start to smell ater 3 mins...some subs are not to good at disipating heat..i think my kicker started to smell after about 30 mins but that was with my idiot friend clipping my poor sub

You didn't happen to stop at Taco bell for a couple of Bean Burrito's before you kicked it all in did ya? Just covering the bases.
