Well, I'm going to be hauling a trailer across the country here in a few months, and I just wanted your opinions on hitches. I don't have the towing package on my '94 XLT, so I'll have to buy a hitch and trans cooler. I want a hitch that doesn't stick out too far or look ugly. How does the OEM Class III Ford Hitch look/work? (any pictures?) I can get a new one off ebay for $80 including shipping. Any opinion on other brands of hitches and trans coolers would be great! Thanks guys! :D

Be sure you get a tranny cooler.

I like Hidden Hitch brand hitxhes, I have one of their Class III's on my 99 and you can hardky see it.

Good luck......

i don't think ford has a oem brand hitch. the dealers here use various places. the one i bought my x from uses a local mom and pop hitch place. that store sells hidden hitch and valley brand hitches. one of the dealers closer to me uses the uhaul place to do the hitches. another up here uses another mom and pop store.

i love the way the "trailer tow package" doesn't come with the receiver. oh well.

Not familiar w/ the OEM brand. For my Toy, I bought a Hidden Hitch for $99 including shipping off the internet from JC Whitney. I also picked up the receiver & a 2" ball from them too pretty inexpensively. The wiring harness came from WalMart. If you do decide to go w/ JCW, invest in these $9.95 mirrors they sell that strap on to the factory side mirrors. Gives you way better visibilty when merging! good luck

Well, the auction's off eBay, so either you already got it before listening to people's responses or someone else got it before you. BTW, the auction didn't say anything about a tranny cooler, you would've had to buy that separately

I bought one of the factory hitches off of ebay but there is another one there for around $70.

Don't most Explorers come with a tranny cooler? I own three, all of which I bought used, and all of them have factory tranny coolers.

Mine doesn't have one

The tranny cooler from the factory is part of the tow package.

Does the factory towing package include a hitch? My 91 XLT has the wiring harness and tranny cooler, but no hitch unless you count the hole in the bumper for a ball.

I do not believe there was any hitch included with the factory tow package, at least mine did not have one.
