officially looking into a 4WD conversion!

Thanks for the advice fellas. I bought the Chilton manual used on amazon for 7 bucks, and just needed some pictures to put to all the info I've been getting. Thanks again guys, I'll be continuing to pick your brains as my plans go forward

So I've been looking around on 'ol Craigslist for possible donor rigs for my conversion and right now I can't seem to find any Gen 2s with blown motors that I can get for cheap, all the ones I've found have good motors and blown trannys. I would really like to keep my stock 5r55e since it is low miles and in super good condition. Does anyone know if it is possible to use my current tranny with this conversion? Is there some sort of adapter I can acquire to keep my current transmission with this conversion? I'm pretty handy with the wrenches, but as you can see I'm fairly ignorant when it comes to 4wd conversions so I'm trying to get my learn on. Thanks fellas.

i bought a 2wd tranny for my parents 88 gmc and adapted parts to convert to 4wd on that trans the only difference was different output shaft and different tail housing

Thank you for the input, that gives me great hope! At first i thought i would be able to do something similar with adapting the tail, but ive tead that i would have to switch put my entire tranny out to be able to fit the t case. How exactly were you able to adapt the tranny in your case?
