One of my friends has got an extra off-road bumper and we were discussing mounting options, and he says to just mount it to the stock bumper. I said I thought I'd rather remove the stock bumper because I would just think that it would look weird as hell with a bumper on top of it.

Any opinions, pictures or info that you could share would be great, thanks alot.

You will definitely want to remove the stock bumper before trying to mount the aftermarket one.

What kind of a truck does your friend have? If it's a fullsize, obviously it's not going to fit without some modification.

It was custom made and he just had it lying around and it appears to fit exactly on my Xplo, i think it could have been originally designed for a ranger. So you think go with no bumper? Any pics?

Are you talking about a pre-runner bar or an actual full blown bumper? The pre-runner bar is designed to bolt to the stock bumper and is usually a single tube with other tubes connecting to it.

Here is a pre-runner bar:

Here is an actual pre-runner bumper which has 2 main tubes:

Any of these look like what you have?

That is very similar, slightly different designs but the identical make up. Won't that look goofy with a stock bumper? Are there ways to paint my bumper black so it matches and looks good?

it's a whole bumper, replaces the stock one
