LOL hi all.

newb here with a question. This weekend we purchased our first explorer its a new dark blue 07 E.B. They had about 9 07's left and we grabbed the one with the most options. But its doesnt have radio wheel controles or nav.
And there is my question.
If i purchased a oem nav head unit what would ne needed to make it work?
since i dont have steering wheel controles would it work?
how much wireing changes would need to be made?

help help help the more details the better.

thanks
darren

please check the respective Nav threads

I'll give a quick answers to get you on the right track but the Nav install and associated wiring has been discussed in great depth in other threads in this forum....so please do a search and read up and ask any further questions in those threads (probably why others haven't responded here). The steering wheel controls are just another option and have no effect on the Nav. It would only matter if you had the controls and you got a Nav from and non-control vehicle.....you would then need to get it reprogrammed. Wiring - assuming you already have the audiophile system w/ subwoofer, then all you'll need to do is mount the GPS antenna behind the radio under the dash.

Ok ill see what i can find. sorry for asking :(

Oh noooeess!! no nose!!! snowy nose!!!

ok i dont think i have the audiophile with sub woofer after a lil reading because i dont have the 6 disc changer. Its a single disk with sirius.
So the factory nav unit wouldnt work in mine?

im not sure if it will or not. I know where you can get the audiophile speakers for $5 a piece right now, you wouldn't have the subwoofer, but if you can crimp a few wires together you could probably put an aftermarket solution in for just a few bucks more. but im not sure if the factory door speakers work with the audiophile or if the car is wired differently. The audiophile is a 7 speaker, which means the front 5x7's are actually an all in one unit that is seperates, and it has a small 8" subwoofer in the cargo area on the pass side.

sorry let me clarify.

The audiophile is a 7 speaker system. The front 5x7's are in the same location. Except that the audiophile is actually two seperate speakers (one tweeter and one midrange woofer) it's all put together into a 5x7 container. The rear speakers (I think) are the same as the regular sound system. The audiophile system has a subwoofer, it's an 8" subwoofer located in the rear by the cargo compartment on the passanger side. The audiophile system subwoofer uses standard subwoofer hookups. So you could probably hop online figure out which pin on the stereo is which wire and from there get a custom to wire in an aftermarket subwoofer.

oh ok gotcha. Sounds like this could kinda get to be a pain in the azz. I was really just hopeing to pull out my radio and place the OEM nav in its place :(

well, if you consider what it would take (and cost) to replace the factory unit with a aftermarket NAV and keep your factory sirius satallite radio. It would probably be even more work. Installing a subwoofer isn't a difficult task. I am not sure how the audiophile system would sound without the audiophile front speakers or subwoofer. i fear that the audiophile system is setup to use the subwoofer and that without it you would be missing a good portion of the music, as it would be sending that signal out of the subwoofer port with no sub / amp to reproduce the sound.

Ok im in where do i find these speakers for 5$ each lol?

Ok just to make sure im on the rite trac. I need to purchase 2 of those speaker and places them in the front doors and purchase a sub woofer to place in the back of the truck. that much i think i understand.
Now for the Nav to work i need nothing other then the nav ant that goes behinde the Nav? I dont need another wireing harness or anything its just all plug and play far has wireing?
