Like I said, here is the story, I have had my 93' eb 4X4 for 8 or 9 months now, and the 4X4 has never worked for me, so I fond my self under the truck for no real reason, just for fun, you guys know what I am talking about. And well I saw a bad ground wire on some lager thing under the truck, almost under driver seat, I think it is the t-case?Is it?
And I cut out the bad part and butt spliced and shrink wrapped it. So I tried to put it in four wheel, so I locked the hubs, then hit 4X4 no sound tried in neutral, hit again no Sound, damn,....I got out and then I saw a hot chick in a red mustang drive by doing 20 mph in revese,....damn!!! So I went inside to get ready to go to work. Never unlocked the hubs! I drove to work then started to deliver, in my truck after about 30 miles I heard an unholy sound, it was a mix of a wet loose belt, bad brakes, and bearings all at the same time!!!! I mean people were looking kind of sound. I drove like 1/2 mile before I could stop. then I remembered the damn hubs!!!!!!! unlocked them backed up, 15, 20 feet put it in drive the sound went a way. No sign of the noise now. What did I do?

If they're manual hubs, then it shouldn't matter too much that they were locked in, unless 4wd somehow kicked in while you were driving (mine once went into 4lo for some reason when i turned the truck on). I guess check to see if the transfer case is in 4wd or not

It shouldn't hurt anything to dive with the hubs locked in (I do it all the time), unless the front differential doesn't have any gear oil in it!

If the front is making noise its not a bad idea to service it at least.

Remove the wheel, hub, bearings, caliper and rotor.
Soak the hubs upside down filled with ATF.
click them in and out 20-30 times. This will loosen any dust/dirtt/moisture trapped in them.

Repack the bearings, regrease the brake caliper slide pins and retorque the wheel bearings.

This is also a good time to see if anything else may be causing the noise, ei no gear oil in the diif, bad U joints in the driveaxle or driveshafts, etc etc..

When the hubs were locked you were spinning the axles shafts, the diff, and the front driveshaft to the t case, so something here is hyour culprit.

You can drive your truck with the hubs locked it wont gurt anything, unless something else is not in working order....during the snow season it was no uncommon for me to leave them locked for a month or so at a time...

OK, so there is no real obvious reason and no one has had this problem before, cool it is great to be a ground breaker!! I will check the gear oil as for the bearings I know how to do it in theory but not in practice. This is my first 4x4, I never have had to work on one before. I believe this may be left to my machine's and I will watch him, that is way I go there Darrel will let me watch!!!I learn most of my auto know how from past cars, and trucks, I think that is how most people learn anyway. I will go when i pay off the CCards i hope before xmas. Thanks for all of your input, sorry to take your time:(
