i was wondering if anyone could tell me the difference between a OHV and a SHOC motor??Is one better then the other??I have a 94 4x4 xlt and i think i have a OHV..I was wondering if i had something worth fixing up i have ideas but dont want to waste my time??PLEASE HELP

Click the search button and type in OHV vs SOHC or vise versa.. theres tons of threads comparing the two.

You have the OHV, unless some serious modification has been done to your rig prior to you owning it. The OHV is definitely an engine worth fixing up, it's very hard to beat one up, and they lasts forever

OHV...OverHead Valve...cam is in the middle of the engine block, and acuates the valvetrain via lifter rods. Think small block Chevy 350 V8...

SOHC...Single OverHead Cam...cams are located directly on top of the heads, and directly actuate the valvetrain with no lifter rods...think Honda Civic 1.6L I4...

your '94 has an 4.0L OHV. It's not a technological marvel, but has been around for ages, and is tried and true. Very reliable internal components.

I know a LOT of folks here have the later SOHC engines, and love them. But I've read tooo many stories of $$$ timing chain issues to consider purchasing a used vehicle with such an engine.

yeah i got it for 600 in pa and when i got home i found out it does not have the park gear but it runs like a champ so i went and got a new trans for 175 with 84k on it(still need to install it)i have the stuff to put a 2 inch lift on it(shackles and coil seats)and a set of 31x10.50x15 and i think it came with manual hubs..and it only has 174,562 on the hole truck

guess i will think more into what??If i am looking to get more power for the hills and rocks
