My explorer was recently running low on coolant. I added some, and it still required more. After a while I noticed a choclately liquid leaking from the air intake.

Turns out the coolant was leaking into the engine and mixing with the oil. Here is the result. Do you think there is any way to flush this engine, or will I have to replace it?

that is about as bad as it gets.

Head gasket at best
Head at worst.

Sorry man. :(

Usually a cracked head up around the valve spring seat area. Of course it'll have to be cleaned and then magnafluxed OR you could have pulled the valve covers with cooling system intact and pressurized the radiator and SEEN it leak. That's a lot of clean-up there.

head gasket or a crack in the head or the block....

time to pull it apart and check it out

Holy Cow. I cant beleive the motor didnt BLOW! You better make sure you get that cleaned very good becasue if you dont and go ahead and spend the money for a head and or the head gasket that GUCK needs to be GONE. All of it.

Best of luck and please keep us posted on what it ends up being.
