Another member mentioned in a recent thread about an oil cooler on his '98 5.0 AWD that got me thinking.

I have a '98 SOHC 4x4 with the "Trailer Tow Package" and "Super Engine Cooling" as stated on my original sticker. I thought that meant an aux trans fluid cooler. There is a small unit just behind the front stabilizer bar that clearly is a small aux cooler, but is that for engine oil cooling or trans fluid cooling?

EDIT: Upon further review - I think what I may be looking at is the power steering fluid cooler. If so, where is the additional oil and/or trans cooler?

Hello chefduane!

On your SOHC 4.0, there isn't an engine oil cooler. Engine super cooling is probably the two-row radiator from the 5.0 V-8 Explorers.
For the auxiliary transmission cooler, look in the passenger's side of the front grille. You should see a plate type cooler behind the grille.

the small oil cooler on the p/s rack is the p/s fluid cooler. most Explorers have a auxiliary transmission cooler on the passenger side of the radiator. not many have the engine oil cooler.

Yep. What y'all said is exactly the configuration I have.
Thanks for clarifying for me.
