I have a 1998 XLT SOHC. I am very new to these vehicles and trying to learn as much as possible. Is that an oil cooler in front of the radiator? Since I bought the truck used, is that a stock part or after market?? Thanks!

It is a power steering cooler.

If its on the front side of the radiator(not facing engine compartment) its probably an auxiliary transmission fluid cooler which may be part of the factory tow package.

I'm not sure about all PS fluid coolers, but mine is not mounted on the radiator.

If there is any question, follow the hoses supplying the cooler and see what they attach to.

The cooler on the dpassenger side front of radiator is an ATF cooler, factory installed.

The PS cooler is mounted below the radiator.

I have an after market oil cooler on my 94 XL 4x4 put on by the last owner. I am experiencing low oil pressure and higher than normal temps. Can someone explain how the oil cooler works? Is there a coolant in it that can leak/be replaced or does the oil just flow through it? can it get clogged? Also, does a higher viscosity oil help with low oil pressure? I live in OK where it stays warm/hot year round. Thanks!

An oil cooler works like a radiator, the fluid is cooled by air flow.
