I replaced the 4 timing chains on my 2000 Ford Explorer with 4.0L SOHC. The guide was broken in the rear. I had to pull out my motor and get the 5488 tool for this replacement.

Now that I have it back together, the engine runs good. I have an oil leak that I believe is coming from the front belt tentsioner. I put the brass ring on the belt tensioner. I believe oil builds up and leaks out when the pressure builds. I thought initially that it was the rear main seal, but I dont' think so now.

Is this a matter of getting it to seed?

Is anyone else having this issue?
Thanks,
Brian

compression ring not centered

The compression ring has a tendency to drop off center before it is tightened. McSlug has provided an excellent tip regarding the installation of the new tensioner. It is very important to ensure the washer/compression ring (if used) on the tensioner is centered when the hex head face contacts the head. If the compression ring is not centered then oil will leak profusely no matter how tight the tensioner. Applying a small amount of gasket sealer between the compression ring and the tensioner face will keep the ring in the correct position.
