It has been a spell, but the Explorer is running again, with a used crank off of Ebay, new rings, bearings and seals/gaskets. All of the parts were painted before it was reassembled. I had to clear the rod journals of old galled babbitt material before putting them back in the block (with the original pistons still attached). Now, with new oil pump and pickup, the pressure is reading to the high side of the M in NORMAL. In fact, all of the gauges are sitting there, excepting the fuel gauge, which is more variable. LOL
Now, the only real issues are a noisy tappet over #5 cylinder, and a rattle when the engine is running with it in Drive or Reverse, and the brakes engaged. I even have the A/C charged and working.
I kinda hi-jacked this thread, but I hope that it was educational. I can post all the pics that I want to now, I am an elite Explorer. If you would like to see the parts as they are now, I have pics, and can post if you want me to.
