Oil Pressure Gauge Not Working

Sorry that the new photos haven't shown up yet.
They should be interesting.

It has been a spell, but the Explorer is running again, with a used crank off of Ebay, new rings, bearings and seals/gaskets. All of the parts were painted before it was reassembled. I had to clear the rod journals of old galled babbitt material before putting them back in the block (with the original pistons still attached). Now, with new oil pump and pickup, the pressure is reading to the high side of the M in NORMAL. In fact, all of the gauges are sitting there, excepting the fuel gauge, which is more variable. LOL

Now, the only real issues are a noisy tappet over #5 cylinder, and a rattle when the engine is running with it in Drive or Reverse, and the brakes engaged. I even have the A/C charged and working. :salute:

I kinda hi-jacked this thread, but I hope that it was educational. I can post all the pics that I want to now, I am an elite Explorer. If you would like to see the parts as they are now, I have pics, and can post if you want me to.

New troubles...

I was travelling to work in Alexandria, VA a cuppla weeks ago. US1 was backed up so I opted to go to Telegraph Rd and get off there. As I was exiting I-495 and climbing the ramp, I heard a loud bang, thinking I'd run over something, but the noise continued knocking unless I was up in the RPMs. I limped it thru a light to get onto Russell, and got it into the lot of Union Station, Alexandria. There, it was running rough, but oil pressure was normal, but the temp gauge was high. I turned it off, and it would not start again, wouldn't even turn the engine over. Like the crank and journals are galled, again. I was able to slide under and see what looked like coolant laying in a puddle under the oil pan. A closer look showed a hole in the oil pan out the driver's side, from the bottom of the block to 1 inch above the bottom of the oil pan.

With my 1991 Nissan 240SX engine out for an overhaul, I have nowhere to park the 4.0L mill to work on it, not with the block of the 240SX on the stand right now, So, once I have the 240SX back on the road, I will be back to report the findings. I have a new/used oil pan to replace the one on it right now, but I already know that it will need a lot more than that.

Later, 'maters.:salute:
