Have you ever checked it right before you go wheeling to see if its actually using it during that period of time? If not it probably uses oil all the time and just so happens to be low before you go wheeling. I really dont know if it can burn that much oil in that small amount of time but i think if it was you would see it coming out the exhaust.

nothing is coming out of the exhuast!! i was told that maybe my rings on my pistons could be bad so the oil could burn off a little faster?? i dont have an oil leak thats noticable cause i park my car in the drive way and there is no spots or anything!! i was also told that on the xlt the oil light comes on like a quart before its actually low so that you dont let it get low!!??

Does the truck smoke? How many miles? How long between off road trips? How often do you check the oil?

ok the xlt does not smoke during the day but when i let it get cold or when its been a while so everything is cooled down it does a little but nothing to worry about there!!

is the oil actually low? have u checked the dipstick? try checking the tube that goes from your intake to the oil filler neck. when mine came loose, my oil light would come on and off intermittently.
