My question: now that I have changed the hubs, how would I get the truck into low 4wd?

From what I understand I don't need to use the press button any more. Is that correct? when I engage do I just need to hop out flip the switches and that is it? or should I also push the button?

Also do I need to grease my hubs up now? I called the ford garage and they said yes, but I remember reading somewhere that it is unnecessary and it is only to keep the system from rusting.

Please let me know what you think.

yes and no.

If you only turn the hubs the front driveshaft will be engaged.....but will not have power. You still need to push the button to have the T-case send power to the front diff. As for the grease....for now you should be ok. Most companies grease them before they ship them. If your's came greased, you'll be ok...if not....grease them.

4x4 and 4x4 lo still work the same way as before. just now instead of just getting 4x4 on with the push of the button you also have to turn the switches on the wheels

if you are about to go off road in a lot of mud, but dont need 4x4 yet, can you go ahead and lock the hubs, and not put 4x4 on? I need the rules on all that 4x4 hubs on off 2x4 stuff thanks.

thanks, the Ford garage guys were telling me that i did not have to press the push buttons. shows how much they know at "Oasis Ford" somewhere in Mid-Jersey.

rule of thumb? if they don't know the answer, the answer is "No". Simple.

Anyway:

Here's the scoop on manual hubs:

In regular conditions, driving in 2 wheel mode - 4X4 button is off (your front axle does not get any power from transfer case which means nothing there turns. When you hit the button, you turn power to the front axle; here: main shaft and drive shafts. At this time the main shaft turns and in turn (punt intended) it turns drive shafts but your wheels are not getting any power since your hubs are in off position. When you turn these (hubs) to "Locked", your in full 4X4 mode. To disconect simply turn hubs to "Free" position. You can drive with 4X4 switch in ON position but in turn you'll get worse gas milege since you're using some power to turn the main shaft and drive shafts. You can also drive with hubs in "Locked" position but then you'll cause more unnecessary tire wear.

Hope it's all clear now, otherwise? shoot again!

so if i go muddin, i can go ahead and turn the hubs locked when im off the road, thats ok.

you can leave them on all the time, the only problem you get is faster tire wear and poor gas millage (due to supply of power to the front at all times). Muddin?????? youe better have them on or it'll be kind of difficult to get out of your truck to turn them on when you're stuck (mud you know)

lol

best of all,

Thanks andre. I want my explorer to look like yours!! How you like the black rims? do people not like them? I want them, but all my friends think they are ugly... ooh what to do. But I just ordered my 2 inch skyjacker lift.

aha! the bug bites!!! beware everyone......

OK now... the black rims are gone. Pictures have not been updated since I'm doing a lot of mods to my truck at the moment. Like every time I do something, another idea pops-up in my head. I will definately get some new pix when it's done and it'll be next week.

For now I ordered chrome, rock crawler modular wheels and will be putting 33" meats on them. I loved black ones but now I need something different although black would look nice since now I've got black front tube bumper with a winch, black safari roof rack and a black rear spare tire carrier that covers nearly entire rear bumper.... well, heck,,, it's too late now. I won't post new pictures untill Attica event though. I want to surprise everyone..... lol......

wheels worked great AR-767 (American Racing).

At this time Pete (RFR2212) has them on his truck (monster).

Alright thanks Andre. Send me those pics when you get them, I can't go to attica, I wont send them to anyone!! hehe. So far I have done:new radiator, new fuel pressure reg., (I need o2 sensors), manual hubs (its new and it just broke!they are sending me a new one), custom chevy towhooks(I need to get some pics up), thule roof racks, k&n drop in, (custom holes in the airbox), and other stuff I cannot remember.

Im about to do (either on order or about to order or have already): herculine rocker panels (wont get any on my hootus), 2 inch skyjacker lift, 2 inch body lift, alignment after shocks and skyjacker lift, new tires (32x11.50 inch mud terrians cant get them till july), and i bought some 3:73 gears, I only have 3:27, and i got a good price from jonm on the 3:73 and limited slip.

Sound ok?

How would these hubs work with the Auto-track? I am guessing it would not work right? I hate the auto track it sounds so bad and it not all that helpful. I am looking to go to manual hubs soon.

Auto Track?? I guess you guys are talking about the newer stuff.... well. My truck is still being worked on,, rims have not arrived yet but I do have plenty of time to put it all together for Attica.

Pictures? I'll get them when it'll be ready.

Thinking now about a custom paint. well, later.

Sorry Austin.....you're not going anywhere with those manual hubs.....do to the fact that you don't have hubs. The newer explorers work more with a system that doesn't use hubs. You're stuck with the setup you've got now.

Sorry.

Wonderful! :-( I am going to be cutting some wires soon so that stupid Auto-transfer will not come on all the time! that has to be hell on the transfer case.
