ok, i had my codes read

Is this something I can do myself or is it better left to a mechanic?
Depends on how good you are and how good your chosen mechanic is. Some mechanics would take one look at that code list and start listing parts that need to be replaced without any further diagnosis. In that case, you might be better off trying the diagnosis yourself. Some people, on the other hand, don't have the patience or desire to try to do it themselves, so they are better off taking it in.
If I were in your shoes, I'd try to do it myself before taking it in.
What problems will I have if I do nothing?
Depends on what's wrong. If the cannister purge solenoid valve isn't opening, pressure can build up in the gas tank and you will start to smell gas around the truck during/after driving. EGR fault will create driveability and emissions issues. If emissions testing is an issue for you, under some circumstances, you won't be able to pass an emissions test because the check engine light is on.

I live in Arkansas and we can get our plates renewed at Wal-Mart, so emissions is certianly not an issue. I just want to know if it is safe and/or if I am doing some major engine damage or something. I will start looking for messed up wires and vacuum lines though.I don't know what a "cannister purge solenoid circuit" is or would look like and where to find it.

Buy a Hanes manual or Chiltons. It will clear up a lot of grey area for you. Also you can buy your own little code reader from Wal mart for around $25.
