After market fog lights

But im not sure which ones i want and which will fit?

I just got done installing the new Airdam that i picked up from a local Ford dealer. So im not to sure about what will fit and what will not fit?

The opening in the Airdam is the standard size i believe, 6"x 2.5". Correct me if im wrong.:)

The color of my X is light green and i was thinking about green fog lights, or clear?!? A complete kit would be nice too.

Suggestions PLEASE

Thanks

Any one?

Don

check out my pix, i got tenzo 800 fogs, they're halogen and as bright if not brighter then my headlights

IMO the Catz MSX , for their size are the best fog lights. http://www.fet-usa.com/products/msx.html
Yes, better than piaa 1500. I don't know about the new PIAA Dead Link Removed Havnt tryed them yet.
Something to think about...

PIAAs and Hellas seem to be pretty popular around here. If I were you, I'd go over to PIAA or Hella .

I'm currently looking at some Dead Link Removed lamps to replace some of Dead Link Removed

Hope this helps!

I have the PIAA 1500 XT driving lights and I have been very impressed with them. I will also agree with Bill about the FET Catz MSX. I have seen them and they too appear to be well built and very bright. There are many lights out there that will fit the factory location.

I also checked out the PIAA 2100, but only online...never seen them in person. Knowing PIAA, it'll probably be a quality light as well.

If you aren't looking to spend $200 on lights, then look at some Pilots at Auto Zone. They are a pretty good budget light. Also look at Hella...they are less expensive than the PIAA and FET, but still a decent light. Good luck!

Yeah ive been looking at Piaa website, but im gonna have to check around for local places near me. I would like to see them in person.

When i picked up the airdam yesterday at the Ford dealer the told me not to go with the Factory Fog lights. Aftermarket was the way to go according to him?

Thanks guys i'll check them sites out and see what looks best for me.

Don, when you picked up the air dam, did you also get the large C-shaped brackets that the factory fog lights mount to?? The brackets bolt to the bumper and hang down behind the holes in the air dam. If you wanted to, I'm sure you can custom fabricate your own brackets, but why go throught the hassle if they can be bought already done. Just giving you a heads up.

And yes, aftermarket is the way to go with the lights.

Stephen, no i didnt know i needed them?!

They did show me the factory fogs with the bracket, but they never said anything about me needing them! The bracket he showed me was black and made of a heavy duty metal.

So i should pick them up and not use the brackets that come in the fog kit?

Thanks for that heads up, i had no idea.:(

Don

Oh, i almost forgot... if i pick them brackets up, can i use them with most any aftermarket fogs?

Thanks

Don

Yes, the brackets are black and made to be pretty sturdy. If you don't get them, there's really nothing else you can mount your aftermarket lights to. And the brackets bolt to your bumper with 5/16 bolts, so it makes for a solid base for your lights, so they don;t go jumping all around when you go over bumps while driving.

I'm sure that you can figure out a way to drill a couple of holes in the Ford bracket to mount just about any aftermarket fog light bracket to them. But, there's nothing else down there to bolt the lights to if you don;t get them.

Ok, looks like i have no other choice! I'll have to check to see if my local Ford dealer has them. They showed me the lamps and brackets together, so maybe they just have the brackets?

Thanks

Don

Yeah, hopefully they won't be **** about it and they'll just let you buy the brackets. If not, then try www.fordpartsnetwork.com. They might be able to sell you just the brackets, and for much less than the dealer is gonna charge you.

Just curious, if you don't mind my asking...how much did the air dam run you, and was it a new one??

I paid $60 for a new plastic stock airdam. Which is what i wanted all along... Fordexpress had one that was made out of titanum for the same price but i didnt know what it looked liked so i passed.

I wanted to have this all installed this weekend, but not knowing which fogs i want and not having the brakets will hold me up till atleast Monday or tuesday!

Don

Hey Stephen, i emailed www.fordpartsnetwork.com and they only sell them with the fogs!:(

So i guess i either have to buy them or rig up my own mount?

Any suggestions?

Don

Hmmm, i just thought of some thing... the factory fogs that were shown to me, had a connecting piece. No loose wires! I dont remember seeing wires undernieth my X in which i could use?

Man, i didnt think i would have this many problems when installing a few lights.

Don

That's a good price for the air dam.

I would check with the Ford dealer for the brackets. Maybe they'll sell them without the fog lights. The factory fogs do not have any loose wires. The bulbs plug into the wiring harness already installed on the truck if it comes with fog lights. Since your truck does not have fog lights, you do not have these harnesses. You'll have to run all the wires yourself. Most fog lights will come with a wiring harness and all the stuff you need to wire them up.

Yes i relize that, but if i can only purchase the brackets with fogs, can i just cut the harness off and wire it somehow? If i have to buy the factory fogs im just gonna use them, it would be stupid to let them go to waste! Then down the road at some point i can pick up a pair of after market...

I guess buying a wire kit and cutting off the harness would work right?

Thanks man you have been so helpfull.:)

Don

Ok, i just ordered the Fog lights from www.fordpartsnetwork.com for $55.99 each! My local Ford dealer wanted $79.99 each!!

I saved quite a bit. :)

Sorry, I didn't reply sooner...my internet just started working again today. I think you did the right thing buying the brackets and the factory fogs together from Ford Parts Network (great people aren't they??). Your only other option was to go junkyard hunting for the brackets and hope that the ones you found weren't bent. You can just swap them out with aftermarkets later. Maybe you can throw the stock ones under the rear bumper for use as auxiliary reverse lights. That's what I did and they work great.

You'll still have to go and cut the fog light harnesses out of a junkyard truck and wire them up so all you have to do is plug in your fog lights when you get them.

I'm glad I was able to help. :D Anything else, just ask.
