OK Im Tired of Bad Gas Mileage..

Any chance its stuck in 4wd?
Checked for dragging brakes?
Wheels recently been rotated/inflated/balanced?

A differential fluid change with amsoil 75w90 in my 3.0 2wd ranger bumped my gas mileage from 17 to 21. Might want to try that as well.

jlsparky7 - thanks for replying :)

Wheels rotates fine...checked two days ago and not stuck in 4WD.
But the back wheels was pretty heavy to rotate, but Im not sure how easy they should be to pull around
I will do a change of differential fluid asap - do you know how much I need?

The guilty one for the high consume of fuel was the dirty MAF sensors, and I never got a oxygen sensor problem as I first tought.
The one sensor was so dirty I had to use a little soft brush sinked in CRC to get it clean.
Voltage on both upstream 02's now showing the the right readings between 0.1 - 0.9V, and no more HO2S21 lean code
The engine idle's more smoothly now, and whith wot it acts like a plane...HI

Tomorrow I hopefully will get the right tool to disconnect the MAF sensors again to clean the "backside" as well, and I really looking forward to measure my fuel milage :)

Update: The IAT was dirty as well, and I have now reduced my mpg with about 30% :D

Ok another update

Hi Guys, long time no see...i have an update.

I started to measure better my fuel consumption (Odometer in zero/fill the tank/drive some miles/fill up again/register miles traveled/drive more miles/fill up again/etc) and here are some conclusions.

August 1.- Went to fuel station.Filled up the tank. I deliberately drove until nearly empty. It took 78 liters to fill it. Odometer in zero.

August 15.- Went again to the same fuel station, same fuel pump, same hour.Filled the tank again. It took 56 liters to fill it again.Odometer at 182 miles. So i think with minor calculations that the truck got aproximately 12.28 miles to the galon (please correct me if im wrong!) 90% are city miles (but not stop and go traffic, really more like expressway)i barely used the a/c

August 22.-Went again to the same fuel station,same pump,same girl,at night(different hour).Filled the tank.It took 71 liters to fill it.Odometer at 460 miles(278 miles traveled).Again, i think i got 14.80 miles to the galon.50/50 city/highway driving with lots of 4k/5k shifts and max/ac.

According to certain websites, with my tires(31*10.5*15 vs 235/75/15) i´m driving 2% more than the odometer readings, so the figures should be a little higher.

Well, i think the truck is running at least ,good. The bad gas mileage is at least normal.Note that the last improvement i did was the rear brakes,so "maybe" it was a factor which affected my mpg. I still want to change my rear differential fluid so i´m waiting for the parts (yeah, down here is HAAARD to get a damn rear differential gasket!)

Anyway, thanks for all the responses. Please feel free to correct my calculations and give me your comments.

Thanks !!

"with lots of 4k/5k shifts'' ---> Are you saying you shift gears at 4 or 5 thousand RPM? Say it ain't so, Joe! That alone will kill your gas mileage.

I just changed my 3rd member oil, new gasket leaks. Didn't have a gasket on before, just blue RTV. I'm assuming it was the blue form-a-gasket.

It's the 31s with 3.73 rear. I have them, and its like dragging an anchor. Even at highway speeds, they require the car shift into 3rd to get past even slight inclines which kills mileage.Put the stock tire back on or you'll never see 18 mpg.

Just use some permatex red/black/blue RTV for your diff seal.

if your speedo was not recalibrated for the larger tires, then your odometer will also be off, which ALSO means your fuel mileage calculations will be inaccurate, due to inaccurate information.
