2002 XLT 78k miles, tranny never serviced
Guys,
Here's the deal. After experiencing a whining sound from the transmission and modest slipping, I decided to change the filter and fluid (not a flush) before driving it to the shop (fearing I was low on fluid and doing more damage by driving it). Well, it was quite an experience (I've never really worked on a transmission but I'm trying to learn quickly). Dropped the pan (which had some metal "shavings" but less than expected...ATF was terrible...slight burnt smell but not strong), changed the filter, refilled and leveled the fluid. After all this, the truck drove and shifted like a dream. No slipping at all, no rough shifts, no whining (or spinning) sound....BUT the OD light starts flashing after 2-3 miles. The truck shifts and drives lots better but now the light???? I will take it to a transmission shop for review, but the AutoZone folks couldn't pull a code (only place I could find open on a Sunday)...total pass there.
