OK, So What Do You DISLIKE About The 5th Gen?

One more thing I wanted my Explorer to have was window shades on rear doors.
Had them on my Focus MK2 (European version, factory installed) and absolutely loved it! Great way to hide kids from sun and still able to open your windows! All aftermarket is crap!

I have them, but since there is only me, besides the dogs, I will likely never use them.

My personal observation

My car is just few days old. only about 300km logged. Happy with the car. Here is what concerns me, so far:

1. I always got to carry some permanent cargo. From the kit that came with the car to the toys kids keep for beach trips.. I must pick up everything before I can stow or deploy the 3rd row seats. It is not the same in many similar cars. eg. Durango, Pathfinder, QX60..

2. The warning horn if I step out with the engine running. I read about it in other posts.

3. The door-mounted-arm-rest position. Hope I get used to it.

4. Lot of scratchy plastics in the cabin.

5. The Nav does not show on the info screen RH side of speedo, no voice commands for Nav. But this could be a regional issue as the Nav we get in the Middle East is not the same as in the US. (I live in Dubai)

6. No head light beam adjustment. I feel my HID Low beam is a bit too high. Often when I accelerate from a stop, it illuminates the whole car in front.

Welcome to the Forum Leju.:wavey:
For headlamps, you can adjust them vertically. There is no horizontal adjustment. See page 335 of your Owner's Guide.
If you don't latch the door all the way when you exit with the vehicle running, the horn will not sound.

Thanks Peter, I meant a knob on the dash like most other cars.. Its fine, anyway, I am not that worried.

So last I counted, I've owned over 70 vehicals, some I loved:) and some were truely hateable:mad: My '14 Explorer Sport is actually my first Ford product ever, nothing against the brand, there just wasn't a model that compelled me to buy it, and the '08 Shelby Super Snake was outta my pricerange:( So I'm getting settled in to this new relationship with "Quicksilver" and I've found a few little things to dislike, not dealbreakers, just minor gripes...

Fuel tank is too small, yes I drive with a heavy foot but still, I barely made it from The OC to Vegas last weekend on one tank:eek:

Rearward visibility! What's back there, who's behind me?? The world may never know...

Seat heaters are slooooowwww to heat up, my last couple cars that had em you'd feel heat in just a few seconds. These take 2-3 bone chilling minutes before anything is happening. Heck, it was 52 degrees out last night brrr;)

Got any gripes to add???

A knob on the dash to adjust the headlight aim? I've never seen that before.

I got the stone colored seats but the carpet and floormats are still black. Black really shows sandy dirt. I miss my beige carpet.

You can get any carpet colour as long as it is black. It is the same in my MKT. However, I think you can get digital fit liners in beige. I have the Gray Husky liners for my MKT because the black ones I had in the Limited wouldn't fit. They are now gathering dust in the garage. I was hoping to be able to use them in a 2016 Ex but I don't think that will work either since the 2014 driver's side foot well has already changed.

Toss up for me. I have beige in my Saab and the charcoal in my Ex.

The charcoal shows light colored stuff and the beige easily shows dark colored stuff. I had gray in a BMW and found that to be the best all around.

This is what I meant Peter. See the button in the center. Very similar to the switch assembly in my office car. Ford Focus.

Leju.

As far as I know, we don't have that here. If I'm wrong, I'm sure I'll be corrected. Here is what the setup was on my 2011 Limited and my current 2014 MKT (bottom).

That's why they call it the 'Focus'.

I know what Leju is talking about. My old Mazda Speed6 had that(so does my wife’s CX9). It’s mainly for when you have the rear end loaded. It allows you to lower the aim of the headlights to prevent blinding other drivers. Once you lose the cargo, you can put it back to normal. I don’t think I ever touched it though, but I never really had my car loaded in the back(trunk).

This feature is for ages in Europe vehicles! I remember its been called "load compensation". As usual, NA vehicles are left behind, there are so many useful features that just do not exist in NA!

I agree with you if you are referring to European vehicles. The 2011 Explorer I had was way ahead of the 2009 Toyota Highlander I had before. It wasn't until the 2014 Highlander came out that it had some of the features of the 2011 Explorer. Also, some N.A. vehicles have auto leveling or auto headlight adjustments.

Peter

It gives a lot more visibility when driving slow on a dark rural road or trail. You can lower the beam a bit and get better illumination at a closer range. Never used for 'loading compensation' though.

Cup Holders: The front/back cup holders in the front center console makes it ambigous who's cup is whose. Only the third generation Explorer had non-ambigous (side-by-side) cup holder configuration.

The second generation Ex's had had front/back cup holders but they had deep liners that were easy to remove and clean.
