2000 mountaineer 5.0 awd
Hello all, I used to post here back 98-99 when I first bought my navajo. I still have it 111k and not a problem yet. anyways

I bought a 2001 mustang GT, so it became my new project for a while until 4 weeks ago, my wife and I welcomed our first child into the world, so the mustang had to go. :(

But now in the drive way sits a 2000 merc mountaineer 5.0 AWD :) beautiful truck has 40k on it and is mint shape. My questions to the experts are:

- Is there any known problems I should look for?

- Does any of the chips out there get better gas mileage for the 5.0 or are they strictly for performance? (I know they will improve shift points)

-What other mods would you reccomend? I'm not looking for a 12 second truck ( had that with the stang) And I'm also not looking for a rock crawler (still have the navajo!)

Thanks in advance for any replys

The only real problem you'll maybe have it the leaky exhaust manifold. If it's not the passenger side manifold cracking.. its the gasket blowing out. A few of us have put aluminum gaskets with locking header bolts that keep the header/manifold nice and tight and that keeps the gasket from blowing out.

But the motor and tranny are both pretty okay. You'll probably have AWD whine too. Just pretend it's a supercharger.
