I just got home from picking my x (1998) up from the local car audio place. I had them take out my old single disc player and put in a 6 disc in dash cd player out of a 99 ranger. First they didn't want to use the harnesses that came with the stereo so that cost me 40 dollars. Then on my way home i noticed that my bass was pritty much half of what it was before. I just had a month earlier put in a new amp and a 10' MTX bass speaker. Its now very weak. I checked the cd player and the bass was set at full and then i noticed i left a set of tools to take out the cd player and they KEPT THEM. Then my cd controls for the back don't work anymore, and i thought it should because its a stock cd player. I guess i will go back on monday but does anyone know how i might fix this myself. On the back of the cd player there are three spots and they are only using one so what are the other ones for. please help

Sounds like you need a new car audio place.

Another reason to do it yourself.

Good luck solving this delima.....

I wouldnt think Rangers would have the rear audio controls option. Unless they're the exact same radios. Does your new one have the little headphones on it (when you press 3 and 5 at the same time)?

what in the world are you talking about?

You need to explain a little better. 3 spots for what? RCA cables?
What else does your system consist of?

Never trust anybody with your truck, install the stereo yourself, it;s just too damn easy to pay somebody.....

He means three different plugs in the back (for different harnesses). Mine has three too... but only two are being used.

EDIT: I think the second one is for the console changer/rear audio controls. See if it fell down in the dash somewhere.

please bare with me i know nothing about this kinda stuff thats why i pay the experts, or so i thought. I have been pressing 3 and 5 and nothing is coming up on the screen, but my friend has the same exact cd player and his has rear controls. In the back there is 3 places to plug into one is being used. I got 3 harnesses with the cd player. And what about the speaker i just paid 500 dollars to have some good bass.

Your situation is, unfortunately, not rare. Factory systems just plane suck,

thanks for helping me so fast.... I can't look back there they stole my tool. But on the old one there was 2 harnesses going into the back. So more wires have to be back there.

yeah i know there not that great but i had the cheapest single cd they made and it had great bass, untill now.

section 525 do you know which one in the back is the one that controls the rear audio switches i think theres a small one and a big one left.

If you're looking at the CD player from the front. I THINK the two that are being used in mine is the very left one and the one next to it on the top. It seems like the big one was on the drivers side.. and the two others were stacked next to it. I can't be certain, but I think the lower is NOT being used.

Can anyone tell me what color wires go into the rear controls harness and how many. Do i use the harness that i got with the cd player or what. how do i go about this i have never done like this.

Billabong02, sorry to hear about your misfortune with the audio place, did you go back to that place and raise H*LL?

yeah i am going monday and make them give me back my tools and fix my bass. They don't like to hear that they messed something up. I wish i had more places to choose from. no one knows how to wire this up, this will help me to end this problem. thanks
