Check the ignition wire that runs to the starter solenoid.. Sounds like its either loose or grounding out somehow..

Its likely the wiring plug on the transmission did not get put back properly.
The ignition circuit going to the solenoid checks to see if the tranny isa in N before it will let you start it, if the neaurtal sensor in the tranny isnt plugged in all the way, no start.

Also if they pulled the tranny they had the starter out, get under there and look at the wiring, make sure its not FUBARED

i already removed and and re-installed the starter b4 i posted this now the only other thing i can think of is that maybe the selenoid is bad but i have heard they are hard to #### up unless they are muddya nd my motor looks like a mud put lol

there are two solenoids, the fender mounted one you are jumping, and one built into the Ford starter.

You need to check the wiring, I have seen it melt on exhaust about 10 times on Gen I 4.0L's.

Also you need to make sure the ground strap on the pass side of the engine block is hooked up. Look near the top of the oil filter, there is a bolt and ground strap, this is how the starter gets its ground.

the next step is to check for 12V at the signal wire to the fender mounted solenoid when the key is turned. The red/blue wire needs at least like 11.8 volts before the solenoid will kick over........

I suspect the wiring, the direct feed from the + battery terminal to the starter and the + feed from the solenoid, wires get hot, melt or crack...

this is a 351 winsor 93 bronco

OKay :) thats a little different :)

Does it by chance have an alarm installed?
I had a problem with the wiring and relay they installed in my steering column when they installed my alarms starter disable feature.

The same principles apply, check for 12V at the red/blue wire at the starter solenoid when the key is turned, if you dont have 12V the problem is up-stream (the key switch itself or wiring from)
the circuit goes from the key, to the clutch switch (even if its an auto there is still wiring to where the clutch pedal would be, its just got a jumper in it) then it goes to the transmission neautral safety sensor, then finally back to the starter solenoid.

I would also look for the ground strap that goes from frame to engine, it is still where your starter gets its ground from, and if the tranny was recently out, its possible it did not get put back in. ON the 4.0L engine it is near the oil filter.

yes there is a alarm that was installed but when i bought the car i took it off the battery terminal so it isnt getting power well as far as i know

any more suggestions i need a list of them so i can start getting to the bottom of this

well well it wasnt what we thought after all. there is a manual saftey swith on the side of the trans and that wasnt in all the way just jiggled that and it cranked right up

I think thats what 410Fortune said it was in his first post: "Netural sensor in the tranny isn't pluged in all the way."
Anyway glad you got it going and nice call 410Fortune.
