Over the course of the year you know I have had some three different Shelby's under my wing, and through that time a lot has happened, so in this log, we'll try and put together a platform that might actually stay together for the 2010 race season.
Enter Dr. SVO for the next wave in what's to come:
As you well know our 2008 Shelby Coupe was taken from a Stage II set-up:
to a KB 2.9 Comp package:
and made a healthy 737rwhp when it was all said and done, trailered to the Silver State classic and ran to a 1st place win:
Now even though I still hadn't gotten all the bugs out of it, we didn't take it to the invitation only Shelby Terlingua meet, but three days later we DID however take it to the Texas Mile where unfortunately all the smoke was let out of the motor on the first pass:
Doing our best Blue Angles imitation it was displeasing to find that three cylinders had a compression reading of "0psi" and one had a reading of "69psi" from the noise the KB made while in the pits, and confirmed by other disgruntled KB owners this blower with a whopping 200 miles on the clock cratered the gear drive creating more than normal heat causing an increase of IAT's that the intercooler couldn't displace and causing pre-ignition detonation, thus damaging the engine.
This past week I have been working to get my hands on a built short block capable of handling the next phase that's to come.
After working with my friends over at 5.0RESTO (Latemodel Restoration Supply) we came up with this:
MMR Forged GT500 Short block
This is the baddest short block you can buy for your Shelby, this short block will support up to 1000+ HP and up to 30psi boost.
Features:
*Brand New Cast Iron 2007 GT500 Block, torque plate bored and honed
*New 4340 Forged 4.165 Crankshaft, includes additional heat treat w/micro polished journals at no extra charge
*New 4340 6.658 Manley Pro-series Billet Rods with ARP2000 rod bolts( These US made rods are shotpeened, magnafluxed and weight matched to bring you the finest I-beam rod available for your 5.4
*New Forged Manley pistons 3.552 Bore size (High or low compression), with special teflon skirt coating for reduced friction and increased HP and a ceramic dome coating for extreme heat dissipation.
*Speed Pro file fit rings (precision file fit to your application, nitrous, blower, turbo or N/A)
*Federal Mogul Competition series tri-metal heat treated Rod and Main bearings
*ARP main stud kit for maintaining correct cap location under the hardest of loads
*Complete Pro Assembly, blueprinted and Balanced for the smoothest, highest revving shortblock available.
With this we'll go ahead and get a set of Borla LT's for me to mod around the Griggs GR40RT suspension and bolt right up to our Borla 3" system that hasn't been installed.
Yes that's right we were making 737rwhp on a 3.25" pulley, stock cast iron manifolds and stock 2.5" exhaust pipe with SLP resonators, and with the 2.75" pulley a one time recorded 920rwhp through the same exhaust system, just remember the stock short block can only handle about 850rwhp before it goes "POP".
Now since this time we'll be running 22-26lbs. of boost and right around 1000rwhp projected this short block should be the ticket.
Now since the KB failed, I will call and see if I can get warranty, but I'm not gonna hold my breath, but if now a Whipple will be in our sights to be the replacement screw box for sans the KB.
So let's get the ball rolling, as of yesterday I drained all the fluids and prepped it for removing the engine out of the bottom of the chassis:
