It looks really effective. Sort of like Ultimate Compound, but looks a bit more user friendly...

That does look like a great system, with no swirl marks, and it should eliminate sling too :) I would still be careful around edges and contours. My old buffer has developed a loud bearing noise, and will need to be replaced soon. I have a quality DA sitting around that should work fine. I can't wait for a Dirt review!! :bounce:

Meggie's answer to the Porter Cable 7424/whatever Autopia calls theirs.

I've been using the PC paired with Sonus pads for years now. It's one of the best ways for a DIY to keep the shine free of swirls. My only complaint is that using 6" pads means it takes a lot of time to do a vehicle's finish "right". I envy the guys with massive rotary buffers, but with them comes so much risk for too much power--burning the paint, etc.

My very old before/after thread: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=193154

I wouldn't work/wax with anything but my DA now- Flounder is right- it's the only way to go. And no, there is no comparison between these types of units and the hand buffer/wax spreaders on the shelves at WallyWorld or HF...

The original Megs G100 was the Porter Cable 7424...

Here is an interesting chart going over the differences as the models were upgraded:

It's funny to read the convenience changes to the unit. While I love the 7424, the ergonomics are straight terrible. However, it's one of those things where I won't replace it until it breaks, and even if it breaks, PC has a lifetime warranty--so I will only hope they send a newer model!

I couldn't believe that finish on the silverado, damn. Lucky spring starts tomorrow hey? That look's like a wicked product (I wonder if my oxford white wlii come up just as good?):thumbsup:

We're covered with snow! I'll have to wait for the first calendar day of Spring this year March 21st... (Or March 20th technically according to some scientific astrology or something, I think...)

Thats a great before and after. Too bad there is so much orange peel, that could have been a mirror finish.

It hides the poor plant stampings on the Chevy... :D

Here is another great before-after... DISO

Haha! The jumbo peel worked.

The mustang looks great, but that swirl looks too erratic to be real. Who would buff like that?? They probably did that for a great before and after effect.

Nope, I've seen a lot of dealer "prep" that looked worse... Most of hte time they throw a buffer and a bottle of wax at a porter making $7/hour because "he has waxed his car a lot of times..." Main issue is- most people think it looks fine.

Here is another one: OUCH!

Its hard to believe the quality of work some places put out

I used to do some body and paint many moons ago, but got burnt out because i was too meticulous. I wanted everything to be perfect, so it became very stressful.
I couldn't imagine giving something like that to a customer.

I completely agree with that Sean, my Dad was a neat freak (nothing wrong with that) so all my work would be up to his standards (I'd just pretend Dad was going to come along and say "you've missed a spot" or "Are you going to get that before you finish").

Then I had to learn the half arsed method for work, what can I get away with, how fast can you do it, quantity not quality and that was from the boss.

Here is another that Nick posted. Good Lord...

Jesus, better than a bloody mirror. Surreal finish.

Good point- I don't know if I want that kind of resolution on the side of my vehicle...

...especially if I'm taking the picture! lol!

I'll join that club:D But depending on the angle I might look 50 lb lighter? [Best Jeremy Clarkson accent] "All the more reason to use.. Meguiar's"

Nevermind, already busted.
