output shaft play

I was replacing a leaking rear transmission seal for the 3rd time(in 3 months) today, and I noticed that the transmission output shaft(yoke?) has a good bit of play (up down side to side, not just in and out), should it be able to move like that?
I think this may be causing my seal to go bad.


I will try to get a video of what I mean tomorrow.

SHould not have any play. So you're probably right, the excessive play is probably the cause for failed seals.

Any idea for a fix? Like will it be a tranny rebuild, or is there more likely something broken inside that needs a whole new tranny?

I did run it with a drive shaft that was too short for about 4 months.....
