do you have a 5 speed box ? it turns off 5th changes the engine braking and basicly wont let it shift into top

overdrive button

The overdrive button shuts off your overdrive. When you hit the button, "Overdrive Off" will light up on your dash. It will automatically reset to overdrive on when you restart your engine. So why would you want to do this? Overdrive gives you the best possible gas mileage, but will in effect lower the amount of available torque. So, driving in very hilly conditions, such as mountains, or possibly when towing a very heavy load, you might benefit from turning overdrive off. This will keep your tranny from "gear hunting" and keep your engine revs up. Your owners manual will also discuss this, but not in much detail. Overdrive has nothing to do with 2 or 4 wheel drive, both can have it.

when you are pulling at any time take OD off. if not you have an high risk of burning the tranny out.

Also to find out what OD does,, do this. Make sure you OD in on and go about 50-60mph and then push the OD button off and watch the RPM guage rev higher.... now we talking torque baby!! ;)

Just an tip.

ok thanks guys that helped me out a lot. while I'm hear would you guys take a look at my other thread in lighting??? nobody seems to be replying. thank you again.

i like to call it "THE RACING BUTTON" or "hey, im just passin' ya on bye cuz you too damn slow!" hehehe

how do you use it as a (racing button?)

just put your foot down. your racing button will kick off automatically :D

Stupid question, but how do you get it to defaualt to be off. The speed i drive at is around 50-55 so it just jumps in and out and i drive with it off(and i'm getting way better gas milage talk to alec and what RPM you should cruise at, he knows what he's talking about) and its becoming a pain to have to push it all the time.

I see now. what about my fog light problem??? any ideas?

i called it my "racing button" cuz in my eclipse its an automatic...turning your overdrive button off lets you go into a lower gear like your power gear if it was a manual....you know what i am saying...i never did that in my X cuz there is no sense....im not trying to race it...just cruisin' it...L A I D B A C K...
