over head console wiring questions

hi everyone. i have a 98 sport witch didn't come from factory with a over head console. using john griggs write up i am putting one in

i have noticed this, the wire colors for the dimmer in the console are different, as well as i am not sure which wire is supposed to go to the gem. when i put power to the console, the map light comes on, and that's it. the display dose not light up. i haven't connected the temp sensor, but i don't think that would have anything to do with the display no coming on. if anyone has done this before, and had any similar problems, and can help, please post. thanks

it took me a while to find that when i did mine, dont feel bad

well that explains it! besides, i figured it out. i had it wired correctly, it happened to be one of the pins weren't making contact.
