A flashing overdrive light indicates that there is a code stored. Take it to another shop to have the codes read. Check WWW.ATRA.Com for another shop in your area.
I have the od light flashing with no shift problems. It comes and goes. Some days nothing and other days it is on. I plan on buying a scanner that reads the trans codes. My present scanner doesn't. What led you to change the EPC solenoid?
Glad your problem was solved. I read on the forum that the EPC does a lot of work and it was suggested it should be changed when you do a filter change on a high mileage vehicle. I just changed my filter and fluid but didn't follow the advice because I read about it to late. It also took me several days because of storms and my shade tree doesn't work as good as a garage. If my OD light flashing comes back I'll take it to an ATRA trans shop and have them check the codes. Can't decide on which scanner to buy. If the light doesn't come back I'll change the EPC on the next pan drop.
Hey Ray I just got the codes read. P0741 on the trans. It is the torque converter clutch solenoid. Guess I will be dropping the pan soon. Hope your is running like new.
I used the Equus 3130. It came up during the KOER test. There were no code before this test. It has more features that I can’t use with a 97 because the computer on the 97 doesn’t support the info. Like it will read the vin and other modules on 2000 and newer vehicles.
I will probably buy a valve body with all new solenoids. With 143k and no idea of the maintenance on this vehicle I think it is well worth the extra work and $. BrooklynBay had a link to a trans place that sell everything for $50 plus shipping. Here it is: http://www.800700tran.com/prod.itml/icOid/80 I may also buy a new wiring harness. BB advised the P0741 code could be a number of issues. That was one other posts I read. Also kumaxlt bought the VB from this place and said he will write something up when he installs it.
BrooklynBay do you think it is prudent to change the VB and harness? Also I guess the drainback issue hasn’t been addressed. Nothing to worry about or big problem down the road? I could get a remanufactured trans and TC. What would you do?
i have been havin this exact same issue for about 2 months now, even after i had to replace the transfercase. but i have noticed that when the light comes on, my x slams into and out of second gear pretty hard and loud, anyone noticed that?
laxman ===I don't have that problem. You need to get the code read. If you do not have a scanner or can't borrow one my scanner might be able to pull it for you. I am in G-Town off Rt118. Send me a PM wih a number and I will call you with directions. Retired so I am around most days.
