2003 Ranger Tremor
Hey, this is my first post. So im not sure if this is in the right forum. I have a 2003 Ranger with a Ford Explorer overhead console in it. It was an 8 hour modification to put in my ranger. My dome lights in the console are messed up. The left one works like normal. But the right one is always on. It never shuts off. They dont turn on whenever I open the door or anything. I went to the junkyard and replaced the bulb assmeblys, and it still has the problem. I want the lights to turn on when I open the door like normal ones do. I know I could easily swap it out, but the one I have is very accurate to the temperature and direction and dont want to give it up. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could fix it?? Thanks

What wires are hooked to what? It could be a simple wire problem.

All the wires seem normal. cause in the overhead console I have, there is a plugin in the circuit board where all the wires go. I even switched the wires since they are interchangeable as well. The only two noticebale wires are black and red for the lights, and those both seem normal. I just dont understand what would cause that light to just stay on all the time. So basically all the wiring seems normal.

It sounds like you have some wires not hooked up right. Do you have the pigtail connector with different wire colors (light green/orange, black/light blue, etc)?

The black/light blue is +12V, and is powered whenever a door is opened.

The light green/orange is +12V at all times. Sounds like one of these is hooked up wrong.

Check you ground wires too.

When I did mine I didn't want the console to light up when the doors are opened so i just used the light green/orange to the map lights.

This info is for a 1996 console.

try checking with this picture in your hand:

BTW: welcome to the board!
