Owners of X's with 31x10.50 tires with NO LIFTs

hey man..it was a joke..just with the bigger tires it look's lowered:D :p ;)

if you have alittle room in the fender's you can stuff the tire up there and flex without worrying about rubbin..somthing you would have to worry about alot right now..i just like some room in my wheel well's..that's just me;) (some room in the wheel well's show's that it's lifted in my eye's) but you do what you want to with your EX and make it the way YOU want it:)

27" tall tires? what size is that? the stock 235/75/15 that came on most explorers was a 28.8" tall tire.....

if you are worried play it safe and get 30x9.5x15s

if you want it to look good with that 4" lift, get 31s

also about 31s wearing unevenly, i have 31s on my explorer and they wore evenly all the way across... well, except for the fronts on the inner edge, but i have -3 degrees of camber on both sides

im sure they would have been 28's when they where new..they are now bald so that would make them smaller..they are not stock tires..im gonna run out the garage and get the # off them now

i dont think i have ever seen a tire with 1.8" deep tread..... well except for the ones on gravedigger

well give or take..i foud this out by using a mesuring tape..so it's not exactly currect..but close

ok the tires on my truck now are P235/75R15's

Glad I can help out here... :D

ehh..not my cup of tea..but if it float's you boat..lol

(i love monster truck's..don't get me wrong..)

Guys I'm not talking about them chopping up or anything. What I mean is if you put at 9.50 wide tire on a 7 inch wide rim it should wear more slowly in the center than a 10.50 wide tire on the SAME 7" rim. If you have 15x8 on 31's it balances back out. Notice how if you run them on stockers the sidewall gets pulled more, causing the outside tread to not be in contact with the ground as much. Yet again, this is with at 7" rim, the guy I was replying to is talking about keeping the stock wheels, not upgrading to wider ones.

yeah..i hate aftermarket rim's..stock's the only way to go IMO

so the tires are gonna wear more to the outside then the middle of the tire?

i read an article in four wheeler or petersons that addressed this issue. they said you have to change the air pressure from what is reccomended when you change tire sizes. What you do is mark a line in chalk across the tire and drive a few blocks. if the center is more worn than the outside, you decrease the pressure and if the outside has more chalk wear, increase the pressure.

good idea, I'm gonna try that.

Ak:
If the rim is kinda skinny for the tire, the outside edges aren't in contact with the ground as far/as hard. This causes the center to wear just a little faster, nothing major but it does. I have 7" wheels on 31's, don't really care that much, just what I read.

stocks are fine, but u are limited to much how big u can go, thus, aftermarket "market" for rims, people like to change and customize, its just how we are in general, who really wants to be like everyone else? newayz, everyone does what they wanna do that makes them happy, for me, bigger is always better

31's probably raise the explorer a half inch at best considering stock sized tires are around 30"...

Actually i believe that 235/75/15's (stock size) are 28.9".

I have 31x10.50R15LT Hankook RF03 on stock 15x7 Rims. I am a total dummy about rims and tire sizes. I want new rims with the same tires I have right now. I am looking into buying Amercian Racing AR-23 Rims. Same size (15x7) or possibly bigger if I can use the same tires I have right now. Could I use bigger rims (15x8) with the tires I have? what are all the backspacing and **** that appear on the AR website?? Thanks!!

yes u can run ur 31's on 15x8 no problem, thats what i have, backspacing is how far out the wheels will sit, i think stock is 4.5 i believe, could be wrong, so smaller, such as 3.75 backspacing with be closer to the hub, pushing the wheel further out, translation, smaller backspacing, tire/wheel sit wider. i have american racing 767(rock crawlers) with 3.75 backspacing 15x8, i would recommend 3.75 but ask around.be sure to order correct bolt pattern, lol

OK, I've managed to find some info on rims sizes and tire sizes. This will be the correct rims I would have to use.

American Racing AR-23
D/W 15x8
Offset -19
Backspacing 3 3/4
Bolt Pattern 5x4 1/2

Does this seem correct? Will this rims be able to use my current 31x10.50R15LT Hankook Tires??

Thanks for previous help :chug:

That is correct my friend, and you hancooks should look/wear better with those 15x8's on it. Those are actually the more appropriate rims than the 15x7. Go get em.

Thanks a lot birdman ;)

I'll get those tires in about a month I think, cause I'll be travelling to the USA to buy some computer equipment (too expensive here). So it'll b my oportunity to get the shackles and rims ;)

I'll post pics as soon as I have the rims on!
