Last week the check engine light came on and I received a notification for Trouble Code P0172 System 1 Too Rich. The following day the CEL turned off but I am still receiving the notification for the trouble code. Today the Low Oil Pressure Light came on as I pulled into the driveway. I turned the Explorer off and took a different car to work today. The vehicle does seem to have a slight rough idle when starting while the engine is warm. I have not noticed any other drivability issues or fuel consumption issues. We averaged 19.5mpg on a round trip drive from Michigan to Tennessee last weekend. (The notifications come from a Sprint Drive unit installed on the OBDII port.)

I am thinking I have an injector leaking which has caused oil thinning and possibly oil burn off.

Before I start tearing into this to root out the cause, what has been other members experiences with this. I read one member said his air filter was causing it. Should I replace all 3 injectors on bank 1?

Welcome to the Forum.
I did a search for that code in the 5th gen Forum and only found one mention by a member asking about it but there was no reply.
It seems that the code can be thrown by any number of problems from what I've found.
Perhaps someone with experience or who has experienced the same code will reply. Good luck and please keep us updated.

I did some self diagnostics in the dark and snow last night. I found the air filter saturated with oil, and standing oil in the air intake pipe. After some research I found the front valve cover has a design flaw and Ford released an updated design in 2013. I went ahead and ordered the valve cover and will swap out the PCV and Air Filter along with it.

There is a thread on that issue and my post mentioning what Ford advised to do; Oil Found In Air Filter

Yessir, That thread helped me with the parts I ordered. I am hoping after doing this and clearing the codes this will resolve the issue. Its a much cheaper alternative to pulling the fuel rails and changing injectors.
