p0174 code lean bank

i recently gotten an error code and had it scanned. i have a 2003 explorer with a 4.0l. i got a p0174 code. i looked online and did reading. most ppls saying its the intake gasket and common problem. am i right there is a upper and lower gasket? what one is it that i need to change. thanks to any info i can get.\ how big of a job is it.

Maybe O2 sensors

If you only have a bank 2 lean you might look at the O2 sensors for that side......usually the input gasket or any vacuum leak will give you both P0171 and P0174. (just a suggestion for your consideration)

thats the only code i seen. i did it myself. was my first time. the vechicle runs really good and every once every few weeks in the moring it might idle rough for a few seconds. besides that nothing. idles great and is a total pig on gas. worse than it use to be. \
how long before the code will come on again. i cleared it.

Check the intake manifold gaskets, I was having the same code with my '03, changed the intake manifold gaskets and problem fixed. Gas mileage improved as well. I was only getting the p0174 code, p0171. Manifold gaskets are $20 bucks from ford. Took me about 4-5 hours to complete, was my first time doing anything like that. Just followed the Haynes manual step by step. Good luck

is it the upper or lower gasket that i want?
also can i spray a 02 safe throttle bottle cleaner around the intake? will the engine rev up at all indicating a leak. just a thought i had.

Check out that link, I think there is only one set of intake manifold gaskets, that would be the upper. I am assuming the lower would be the exhaust gaskets, but someone else could correct me on that. That is a ford diagram of the ford gaskets. Good luck.

When I call aouto part store they ask upper or lower. Am I missing something?

Yes upper was 11 dollars for top and 26 dollars for lower.

I don't know, I can only find one ford part number for intake manifold gaskets. Just call ford they are only $20 direct from Ford.
