Hey guys, first post here. I hope Im in the right section with this post. Basically Im trying to get some help with diagnosing how to fix the problem that is causing a P0174 code.
Ok guys, this is a 99 Ford Explorer XLS 4.0L OHV with 100k miles. This is my moms car that I am fixing for her to save her some money. I will start from the beginning to not miss anything so you guys get as clear of a picture as possible.
Picked up the car a few days ago and the check engine light was on. Drove straight to my mechanic to have him scan the codes. 4 codes came up...1)Evap code P0455 2) Cylinder misfire in 3 and 4 3) some sort of theft code that i can't remember the number to 4)front passenger abs code, can't remember the exact wording.
I replaced the hub bearing assembly over the past couple days on the front passenger side. The ABS would actually feel like it was engaging when you would come to a stop. Or at least I think it was the ABS engaging, it would feel like the car was sliding almost but no ABS light would come on though.
I then replaced all spark plugs, wires, and coil pack. I then started the car up and it was not starting. It wanted to but wouldn't. I then realized I had my coil pack order wrong. 5 and 6 were switched. The car did start up after I switched them. Drove around the block a couple of times and the ABS did not engage at all. Brakes felt great. The car still has a rough feel to it, kinda feels like it shakes a lil bit.
Today I let the car run for a little bit and the check engine light came back on which I figured would happen because I didn't do anything to correct the Evap P0455 code. Drove it to PeP Boys which is a local auto store around me. They will scan your car for free.
They scanned and the only code that came up was a P0174 from Bank 2. The guys said he could actually smell a bit of a rotten egg smell. I did seem to notice it too.
I then went home and began to look into the P0174 code but figured I would also post here to see what you guys think. I know the Bank 2 is something thats going on with the driver side part of the engine. Not sure if I did something while changing the plugs and wires on that side. I did disconnect some things to fish the wires through but I put everything back afterwards.
Anyways, I looked at my chiltons repair book and realized that I had my wires wrong on my actual spark plugs. I thought it was 1-6 in a clockwise order. I just went outside and made the adjustments to the wires but didn't have a chance to drive the car around because I didn't want to lose my parking spot lol.
I will be going to work in the morning with the car, hopefully it doesn't breakdown on me lol. Im not sure if this code is a major concern or not.
So what advice can you guys give to me to try and get this code taken care of. I think its weird that it didn't show up when I first had my mechanic scan but after I did some work it pops up form pep boys scan.
