Hello all;

I've been 'snooping' around these forums for quite some time, also did some searching with regard to this code number and can't seem to really get anywhere.

I have an '05 Explorer XLT 2WD Flex with 89,x... No matter what my mechanic and I do, we can't get rid of this code (running rich, bank 2)!

We've done:
-fuel pump replacement
-fuel filter replacement
-O2 sensor replaced (Bank 2, after the CAT - this sensor was a bit lazy while we ran diagnostics)
-Air filter
-MAF seems to be okay, but we haven't really taken a hard look at it
-pulled all spark plugs on bank 2 side to look for black plugs (signs of running rich) and they are all fine

If anyone else has run into this code and was able to solve the problem, please let me know what you did!! Anyone have any ideas?

Any input is much appreciated.

Hi,

Have you checked for a vacuum leak?

Might want to also check the DPFE since it is a cheap, simple part to replace. My father's mechanic had a problem chasing it down on his 2001 explorer. I got it right away, reset the computer and passed inspection fine.

check for leaks along intake tube and where it meets the airbox, also where it meets the throttle body..i had this code awhile back and it was because the aftermarket filter I jimmy rigged on there was not air tight and slipped off, i replaced correctly and reset computer and code went away. I would assume it is along where the intake runs.

Thanks for the input guys - we're going to dig into this a little more when I get out of work today.

I'll update

Ford has tsb for update pcm for this code.

swetrid - where do I go to actually obtain the latest calibration release? Can't really find anything through Motorcraft. Haven't called my mechanic to ask him yet - his computer that he plugs into my car is a Snap-On MODIS - do you think this would be able to reprogram the PCM?

We checked for vacuum leaks - found nothing. Cleaned the MAF, but doubt this will do much. We hooked up the computer after we did this stuff and my long term fuel trim in bank 2 is a little over 25% (should be between -20% to 20%). I'm almost positive my light will flip back on tomorrow morning.

Dealer only for recalibration unless side shop has very specific special software. I would try reprogram first before any other repairs.

Okay - I'll contact my local dealer - any idea on what the cost would be to reprogram??

WE charge like 1/2 hour, so like about $50 depending on shop labor rate.
