My truck is now shaking and back fired a couple times.Engine light came on and flashed a few times.I got it home and did the test and it was PO304 (cylinder 4 misfire detected) Does anyone know what i am looking at here? I am hoping it has something to do with the engine that is under warrenty by Fords extended plan..Any info would be greatly appreciated Thankyou much..

Check the wire that goes from cylinder # 4 to the coil. Make sure both ends are plugged in securely. If they are then pull the plug out of cylinder # 4 and take a look at it. I can't think of any Ford extended warranty that would covere a cylinder mis-fire.

No i was thinking it was the cylinder block or head..They are covered under warrenty.I just had plugs and wires put in about 4 months ago.I am hoping the repair will be under $200.. However i will look at wire # 4 correct?I see there is salt and ice under there..

The cylinder block and head are not covered under warranty unless you purchased an extended warranty that covers them. The only things that Ford has voluntarily exntended the warranty on the '97 are the throttle body, camshaft tensioners, camshaft chain guide and lower intake manifold o-rings.

I have the Ford extended warrenty and it's good upto 93k miles..I am at 85k now.Do you know where plug 4 goes? They were #ed but i had new plugs and wires put on and they arn't numbered.I looked at all the plugs on the coil and they seem fine..

Plug 4 should be the front driver's side. It is the one closest to the battery.

I took it to my mechanic and will update you on the progress..You mentioned the throttle body is under warrenty. When i bought the truck it failed emmisions and one of the things they did was clean the throttle body with a 3M cleaner..Maybe they should have replaced it?

The warranty on the throttlebody is due to it sticking closed on initial "tip in". If Ford already replaced yours with the most current version but yours got contaminated, it wouldn't be a warranty issue.

Robert,
My mechanic called me and it wasn't anything major..The garage that put my new spark plugs and wires in did it incorrectly i guess..From what i understood one of the wires was on the egr and exhaust and melted causing the problem..He also recommended i use ford wires which are $105 and i am also having him clean the fuel injectors for a total of $230.00...I just don't know why this wire took 4 months to burn up..I wonder if sears messed with it when they did my cams and alignment..Thankyou for your time in this matter it was appreciated
