Hello all,

I just purchased a cherry (literally dark cherry) 2006 Limited 4.6 Ex with 205k hwy miles in mint condition. The old man took amazing care of this thing and passed away recently (bless his soul).

I have read and searched the forums here for about three hours yesterday looking and searching for answers to a couple quirks. Here they are listed numerically.

1. Sunroof leaks (no prob found solution here)
2. Exhaust tick for 30 secs during warmup (no prob not worried about it)
3. Gas smell in the cab and tripping a P0442 CEL (must find answer)

Since I'm a plumber/mechanic at heart I'm gonna use some guitar string to roto-rooter the drain lines for sunroof. The exhaust tick is no big deal. However the gas smell is under the hood while the engine is running. I've checked every vacuum hose, removed the purge solenoid and checked it (does not leak). At the same time I can drive the truck for several days before P0442 comes on. (Small leak detected) I have a premium scanner that I use to check/clear the code.

There are no wet spots or stains on the fuel injectors, or gas line anywhere. I did find a kink in the rubber hose from the tank vent tube to the rubber hose that connects to the purge solenoid and cut the last 1.5 inches off and refit it . Could this be a PCV valve issue?

Not sure if it could be caused by the PCV, but they are supposed to be replaced every 100K miles so it wouldn't hurt. It sounds like it might be near the vacuum intake on the manifold in order for you to be smelling it in the cabin, but honestly the only easy way to pinpoint it, since it can be a very tiny crack in a hose anywhere, is to do a smoke test on the EVAP system.

My dealer just did a smoke check on mine yesterday and checked the entire Evap system for $80 to me that was money well spent cause I don't have the equipment to trouble shoot stuff like that.
