So, just picked up an ‘04 Explorer with the 4.0 engine for my son. 207k but the timing had been done and the transmission replaced as well. It’s been 50k miles since trans and 20k since trans. Cars clean and only paid $1,500.
Son drove it home, then went to a friends house. Called to say the wrench light was on and a pending P0720 code. Read up on the code, sounds like a sensor issue or a wiring/connector issue.
I have noticed that it doesn’t go into reverse unless you give it some gas first.
Here’s two vids for the sound. One at idle and one that shows the sound moving with throttle.
With this sound, put it in drive and it moves fine.
