2000 Explorer XLT 5.0
OK guys,

Did some research on this site (Tried to anyway, kids screaming in the backround) about the P1400 code. I have a 2000 Explorer XLT 5.0 Does this truck have this sensor? Module? Whatever it is?

I really do not want to try and remove the EGR valve as it looks a bit rusty and do not feel like putting an exhaust mainfold on when the flex tube strips out or something stupid.

Truck has 84,000 miles on it and has lived in New England all of its life. (Hence the not wanting to try and break loose the EGR valve at this time)

Any photos of where this module is or if this truck even has one?

Thank you and sorry for the rant but the truck needs a sticker and it will not pass with the check engine light. When it rains it pours. (Also need to do a control arm on my Volvo. Another sticker issue, its back yard mechanics weekend)

Thank you in advance,
Richard:confused:

My '99 5.0 has a DPFE sensor, so I'm guessing your 2000 does too. Look just to the right of the EGR valve and just below the trans fluid dipstick handle. Has a three wire plug attached to it. The originals were aluminum housing, but the replacement I bought was plastic. Pretty easy to replace, held in with two 10mm? bolts, but I recall having to get creative with a 1/4" socket wrench and a universal joint. They get water in them from condensation and corrode internally. Almost always the cause of any EGR codes. You can double check your EGR function by running the vehicle, pulling off the vacuum line on the EGR, then use a "MityVac" or something to draw a vacuum on the EGR valve. If the engine RPMs drop or stalls, then the EGR probably isn't stuck or leaking diaphram.

Wait-
po402 would be an egr code

p1400 would be a low voltage to rear o2 sensor code-could be as simple as a bad battery

Do you have any low voltage symptoms?

Yeah, what JT said.^^ IIRC, my code was a P402 that was solved by replacing the DPFE sensor.

p1400 - dpfe ckt low voltage

The DPFE sensor has two hoses coming to it off the EGR tube and a 3 pin electrical connector as well. I just had mine off of my '97 Explorer 5.0 and I just used a 7mm 1/4 drive socket and ratchet.

The DPFE sensor is a real common failure on all Ford vehicles that use it and has been the fix on most of the vehicles I have seen. I would also recommend getting a Motorcraft part as the cheaper ones don't seem to work as well. Part #DPFE15 and usually around $70.

Having this same problem on my 97 mountaineer went to autozone and got the code of insufficient egr flow. So before i pull the egr valve which looks to be a pita to clean it should i check it with a mitey pump and if it stalls out the engine on idle then just replace the DPFE sensor?
