I have a 2006 XLT...and I just washed/waxed it friday..and while cleaning the right side I realized it felt really rough. So I scrubbed some more..still really rough..almost like sandpaper. I looked closer..and little red specs could be seen covering the whole right side of the truck and some of the liftgate.

I waxed...2 coats..on the car..and it still feels the same, while the rest of the car feels like it should after a nice coating of wax...any ideas?

I believe what you may be seeing is what is called "rail dust" and can be read about at:

Sounds like you need to clay bar the right side of the X.

but I have washed this thing a million times before..and never seen or felt this..is it something that can just pop up?

I have had this on my past Explorer's and successfully used clay bar with chemical to remove it. Then I would rewax and everything was smooth as a baby's butt. Typically, I clay bar all of my vehicles every two years to remove road grime, grit and anything else the State of Alaska plow trucks can throw it them.

What do you mean by clay bar with chemical

I've never used one before....fairly easy? Time consuming? Not good to do when its 40 degrees out?
