How did you go about painting the bumpers ?????
step by step details please !!!!!!!!!! i want to do the same exact thing to my red 03 XLS
looks awsome by the way !!!
Haha thanks,
Well step by step detials, Sure.
Grille
Pop the hood and there is 4 or 6 screws. Slides right off
Took the ford emblem off the grille. Then gave it a good washing.
Then i did a light dusting with paint. Then another light dusting. After that i did 4 coats, waiting like 10 minutes after each one. Let dry for 2 hours. Then i poppd the emblem back in (you might need to hot glue it)
Bumper
There are 2 screws on the top on each side. You have to unscrew part of the fender well and finnese it in order to get to the one in the far back.
(i just unscrewed four of the screws towards the front and bent it back and stuck it in a tread of the tire to hold it)
After that there are 2 more on the bottom of the bumper.
Then on the top where the screws were you sort of need to push it down so it disconnects from the body.( hard to explain) you'll figure it out tho.
And just slide it off.
(there are four little hook kinda things where it slides in at. You might need to push a couple of them down with something and slide it out.... i only needed to do one tho)
Rear Bumper
I found some time today to do the rear bumper.
There is a total of 4 screws
There are two screws on the bottom of each side.
That should pop the bottom out.
Then towards the top there are two more screws ( right under the rear lights)
To take the lghts out just open the trunk and there are two screws, the simply slide out.
After that you may need to finnese it again on the sides (i found if you get a screwdriver and wedge it in and sort of push up it slides off) and it should just fall off. Just be weary of the the rear lights that are hanging! I just slide them back in after taking the screw out so the weight wasnt supported on the wires.
If you want to take the little grip thing off the bumper( its the long piece with a grip sorta?? lol) there are 6 or 8 screw things that you gotta pop out. i just wedged a screwdriver into the gap of the screw and the adapter and poppd it out.
Then i got a crowbar and slide it under the bumper and the grip thing to pop the little claws that hold it off.
Its hard to explain. Youll see what i mean. If not common sense will take over. Lol
I did the same thing with the bumper as the grille.
Just make sure its a nice day out. Not too much wind. And spray in lines not like a crazy kid with a spray can. lol
Take your time and it will look great.
Paint
I used krylon fusion (dupli-color also has plastic paint but i liked the krylon)
(black satan for bumper and black gloss for grille)
I prefer that combo of finishes
(gives a nice visual line where the shininess ends, but thats just me
You can go gloss n gloss or whatever floats your boat.
I went thru 2 cans on the bumper and roughly one for the grille.
Going to do the back bumper tomorrow hopefully.
I would guess it comes off the same way. Just find the screws.
Good luck and Let me know how it goes! =)
Note. Explorers look pretty badass without a bumper.
Haha
