I got a set of free rims for my SAS. So Decided to paint them..

Idea's on how to wet sand them before i clear coat them? got a small run one and the center is wheel paint and its a lot thicker and was hard to spray in short bursts.

Also before paint i used a medium sponge (120 grit) and wet sanded to take the top coat off and make the paint stick better. But on One rim the Power coat is bubbling and rising up. may have to sand blast it clean.

You shouldn't wet sand til after the clear coat. I usually use 1000 to start and 2000 after. If you have never done wet sanding before be careful it is easy to sand thourgh the clear coat. I use a spray bottle with water. You will need to buff it with some kind of compound to get it back to a shine.

You sure you need clear coat? ;)

120 grit is fine. On the part where the rust has creeped under the powder-coating, sand it back down to bare metal.

As you may remember, my wheels came bare metal (still had cutting oil from drilling the lug holes) so I had to paint mine. I used an epoxy for the base (white) and then smashed it with a green enamel. So far they've held up fine but it took a few days for the paint combo to completely cure.

I quick wirewheeled most the the scalloped rust off mine and hit it with black hammertone, holding up just great.

I shouldn't have clear coated... didn't check the paint types.. I guess they are not compat. So i am going to sandblast them clean and respray. But i will try to Wet sand them with 2000 first and see what happens, its only two rims out of 5

Yeah dont clear coat it :D

so why couldn't you just do a simple wirewheel it, black primer coat it, paint them in high gloss paint, thats what i was thinking about doing.
