Although I haven't been posting on this site for long, I have been an avid reader for sometime now. With that being said, I did a search for this info first and couldn't find anything. If I overlooked something, please point me that way!

I was thinking about having my hood, and only my hood, repainted. My car is black, in case you didn't notice by my username. A buddy of mine does a great job and is hooking me up with a great deal: $150. He's done a great job on everything else I've seen. The reason I want mine repainted is because there several rock chips in the hood, as well as a few other bad spots. I run an auto detailing business, so the paint is in good shape other than that.

What's everyones opinion's on this? Do you think it's a good idea or a bad idea? Has anyone had this done, and with what results? I'm hoping there won't be a noticeable difference between the hood and the rest of the car if I get it repainted; i.e. such as different shades or anything. I would think black wouldn't be hard to match.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

See if you can get him to do a test piece of sheet metal up the way he's going to do your hood. That way you can compare it to the rest of the truck.

Other than that, your truck is relatively new(compared to mine at least). I dunno how much the paint has changed. If its a noticible difference, it might actually look worse. So just be careful.

Is he going to do a basecoat/clearcoat to match the factory paint? If so $150 is a good price. Blacks can change, but if the rest buffs up nice I bet the match will be ok.

I agree with Glacier!

Thanks for your responses... I'm gonna have to talk to him later and get more information. This is just something I am considering and want to be sure before I make a mistake! Thanks again!

yeah have him shoot it and you can TLC it if need may be.

As much as I loath these things, adding a bug deflector will greatly lengthen the life of your hood paint.

Yeah I definitely added a bug deflector... unfortunately, I didn't buy the car until last summer, so the rock chips are from the previous owner. I'm just not happy with the hood and the chips in it, so I think I'm gonna have him repaint it (along with a clearcoat of course). Thanks for everyone's input.
