Used rubberized asphalt undercoating, available in spray can form if you happen to not have an air compressor / schutz gun.

It's black, and it protects your undercarriage.

I recently used some por-15 to recoat my bumper and a few other places that needed some surface rust removed and was very pleased. It's very hard when it dries and it goes on fairly easily, and thick. I didn't spray it on since i was only doing smaller spots so I could finish up the Herc, but I plan on doing the underbody when it gets warm again.

Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator is the best mid coating, after rust killing, before topcoating. They have excellent rust killers also.

Topcoating is up to you from low cost paint cans, to engine paint(my choice), to undercoating. Regards,

if your gonna run offroad you'll blast the paint from the bottoms of the frame rails anyway...meijers flat black works for me :)

I use krylon glossy black. I was originally disappointed when one can only covered the back wheel wells, but when i hit everything with the pressure washer six months later, under a half inch layer of mud was the krylon paint. After a little spraying it looked like i had just painted it that morning. It's not high-temp, so watch the exhaust.

so how hard was it taking the body off the frame? looks like haveing a few lifts make it possible.

I bought the lift as part of my body work budget.

Try Rustshield by SEM, it comes ready to spray in various colors, (and in a rattle can if you want to go that route) it is very durable, prevents rust corrosion and is inexpensive, around $50. a gallon, I prefer using the optional hardner with it on undercarriages. POR 15 is a great product, it's super durable and if theres a serious rust problem, it dries hard as a rock, chip resistant and the exisisting rust won't corrode through it, but it is much more expensive than the rustshield. GOOD LUCK
