hey how much do you think it would cost to paint all the gray trim on the bottom and the running boards black on this explorer? thanks. i dont have time to do it myself.

my good guess would be, the shop may charge around 300 bucs. i got the estimate from various work ive had done before with them.

not much if you do it yourself with krylon fusion. 2 cans ought to do it.

x2 - Krylon fusion it.

did you take your trim/bumpers off or did you just tape around them on the car?

I did my bumpers myself, It dosnt take very long to do.
Most of the time is Time spent waiting for paint to dry.

Im not sure how the trim comes off but i took my bumpers off and painted them. Took about 15minutes tops to take off. (thats with figureing out how they come off, Im sure i can get em off in 5 now. lol) I have a writeup too if you want it.

Im sure you can just tape them up and paint them if you wanted.

Just take a sunday instead of watchin football commercials go out spray a coat and then go back in watch till the next commercial. Then rinse n repeat. Haha :D:D

The only problem i see with yours is getting the ammount of gloss to match. B/c i see half your bumper is a very gloss black and the rest is that tan color.
Im not sure if you would try to paint the bottom half or just prime the whole thing n spray it. Or just spray it. lol

Just grab krylon fusion. Its like 4 bucks a can. Do a couple of coats n see how it looks. If it works you saved 300 bucks. If not you wasted 10 bucks and you missed some football commercials.
Good Luck

I did mine recently. If I knew it was going to look that much better, I would have done it years ago. I gave the trim a quick roughing up with a scotch-brite pad and primed, then painted. Spent $20 on paint, primer, and scotch-bite pads and I'm very happy with the results.

you primed it? got any pics?

Be careful with krylon... don't use the fusion or plastic spray. Its not really a paint but bonds with plastic. I don't think it sticks to paint very well.
The explorer in the pic has painted trim already. you'd have to sand it down to the plastic to use that kind of krylon.

You can go to any body shop and have them mix up your paint code in a spray can. Approx $20 for a 14 oz can. 2-3 cans should do... and cover with clear. Then you are guaranteed a color match. There are many different shades of black and I think you'd want it to match exactly.

As for a shop to paint them... I figure more in the $600 range as they need to come off first to do a good job.

hey im pretty new to the forum but what to you guys think about painting the trim on flat black on a dark blue explorer
plus i have flat black rims
