My 1994 Explorer parking brake control assembly needs to be replaced (the foot peddle goes to floor due to the ratchet pawl slip). I can buy the entire unit from Ford for $188. Does anyone know if this is a difficult DIY job? Or perhaps the old "recall wedge" can be bought from my Ford dealer. Anyone know how to put this wedge on (my Explorer was built in July 1994...two months after the recall expired)?

its a recall they should do it for free

If your truck was built after the recall range, it should already be updated. The beauty of buying a new brake control from Ford is that the tension is released, making it easy to put the cable on. Just remember to remove the plastic tab that is holding the tension after installing the cable.
