Parking Brake Does Not Work

This is my issue. When I push the parking brake pedal down it does not stay down; it will go down but on its own come back up. Now if I hold the pedal down and leave it in gear or in neutral it will hold the exp but the minute I let that pedal go it comes right back up. Any ideas as to what this could be?? I have to get it NJ inspected this month and I want no problems. That is the only thing wrong with it right now. Thanks!

its probably the locking mechnisim, i think that the whole pedal assembly comes as a set, idk, but i would assume if you could get that it would fix your problem
